Give a Little Love This Holiday Season

As we get closer to the Christmas holiday, like many others, I begin to get a bit nostalgic. Replaying memories from Christmas’ long past when I was a tot. Counting all the ways I am blessed beyond my wildest dreams. I often think about those who I’ve lost, like my grandmother who loved Christmas just as much as I. In fact, she’s probably the reason why Christmas is so very special to me and my family.

This is the time of year when I think of others and how hard it is for our soldiers to be away fighting for our families so that we can continue to share these special moments and create new memories. I think about the neighbors next door who may have lost a job or are having trouble balancing family responsibilities with work priorities.

Though for me this may be the best time of year, for others it is the hardest. I always try to keep perspective on what’s really important. Though the gifts, yummy goodies, and shopping bonanza are all a blast, remember there are people out there who are lonely, homeless, struggling or just need someone to talk to. I guess what I’m saying is, in the midst of all the holiday cheer, try to make time for a cause you truly believe in and are passionate about. Time is truly the most precious gift. Spend some with someone who could really use it.

If you’re not sure where to start, here are a few things I did this year that may spark some inspiration.

Write a letter to soldiers

A month before Thanksgiving, I was told that a local radio station was sending letters to our military who are not able to make it home for the holidays. I immediately decided I would write a letter so that someone out there knew that they were appreciated, cared about and prayed for. This is easy, costs nothing and is a completely selfless way to give back anytime of the year.

Give to moms in need

This time of year can be really hard for single and first-time moms. I piled up on baby goods and made a few cute little baskets. I decided to donate them to a local charity who helps struggling single mothers.

Donate to animal shelters

Every year I give 5 to 6 goodie baskets to two local animal shelters. I’m a huge animal lover and enjoy giving food, treats, blankets and other gifts to my favorite animal shelters. We can’t forget about our sweet fur babies who are waiting for their forever homes!

Wishing you and yours a special holiday filled with the most precious moments!
